VIENNA CONVENTION: OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR MADE IN ITALY
With the recent acceleration in the parliamentary ratification process, Italy’s adherence to the “Vienna Convention” for precious metals is imminent. Therefore, by means of controls and hallmarks at the Chamber of Commerce Assay Offices, it will be possible to place made-in-Italy jewelry directly on the markets of 21 countries without further checks in the country of destination. UNIONCAMERE/Dintec, the gold districts’ Chambers of Commerce and Confindustria FEDERORAFI will address the issue with details on procedures,
hallmarking and costs.
THE SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT
Commitment to environmental and social sustainability in the jewelry industry is growing, starting with the raw material. This will be discussed at Oroarezzo in the conference entitled “Certified ethical gold: solutions for buying sustainable raw materials”, organized in collaboration with the non-profit organization Fairtrade Italia, together with Giulia Camparsi, Supply Chain Manager of Fairtrade Italia, and Francesco Belloni, founder of Altro Carato, the first metal bank in Italy to supply gold of certified sustainable origin.Sustainability also implies process innovation in order to make products that respect the environment and human health, a topic that will be the focus of the meeting “Eco-sustainability and quality of surface treatments and coatings for gold and jewelry’ in collaboration with AIFM (Italian Metal Finishing Association).
WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT IN THE JEWELRY INDUSTRY
Italpreziosi will turn the spotlight on the contribution of women to the industry by presenting the seven Women Empowerment Principles (WEPS) defined by UN Women, the United Nations body for gender equality and women’s empowerment. After initial greetings from Italpreziosi’s Board of Director president, Ivana Ciabatti, one of the 100 women in the world in the mining sector to be awarded for their sustainable impact in the Women in Mining UK ranking in 2022, some leading figures from the gold and jewelry sector will describe their experiences: Iris Van Der Veken, Executive Director and Secretary General of the Watch & Jewelry Initiative 2030, Mihwa Park, WEPs coordinator, who works at the Global Secretariat of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP). Moderating the event will be Alice Vanni, Corporate Social
Responsibility Manager and member of the Board at Italpreziosi.
RETAIL JEWELRY DIGITALIZATION
Advertising on social networks, online reviews: digital has changed the jewelry shopping experience and it is crucial that retailers are not caught unprepared. At the meeting in collaboration with Federpreziosi Confcommercio and Federpreziosi Confcommercio Firenze Arezzo, Confcommercio Toscana Director Franco Marinoni, Gloria Belloni, co-owner of Studio Effe Erre – Milan, Elena Spanò, owner of Gioielleria Renai -Florence, and Mario Didone, jewelry manager at Hausmann & C. – Rome, moderated by Steven Tranquilli, Director of Federpreziosi Confcommercio, will discuss the issues supported by data from Federpreziosi’s observatory processed by Format Research.
THE BEST DESIGN AWARDED BY THE PRÈMIERE COMPETITION
More than 50 jewelry creations will be competing for the 32nd edition of the Première Competition, all on
display during the days of the fair inside the halls and online on the event website. Sunday 13th May will see
the prize-giving ceremony for the best interpretation, in terms of Italian goldsmith manufacture and design,
of the theme of light. For the first time, the competition will also be open to the projects of young goldsmith
students in the new Talents category.
